The "Getting Started SIG" is for people new to HIA and the world of investing. We cover fundamental concepts, terminology, tools, and strategies needed to achieve investing success and avoid common mistakes. Each session covers one investing topic, with time for open Q&A and road maps for further learning.  Leigh has a section on this web site dedicated to Houston Investors   hia@tayara.com

Special Situations

Gregor Riesser - SIG Leader - Room 150
This SIG, formerly called Fundamental SIG, reviews stocks and other securities (including closed-end funds), which are out of favor on Wall Street and sell at bargain basement prices.
All participants are invited to present their favorites.  Gregor Riesser, The SIG Leader, sees his role mainly to be that of a moderator.  He will, if needed, discuss his bargain basement purchases.

The Technical Analysis SIG introduces topics to technical analysis with ideas on the use of indicators, and approaches for trending and/or investing in the various markets.  The markets of interest are stocks, mutual funds, futures, and options.

The Internet SIG presents Internet sites and issues of interest relegated to the WEB and investing.

Mutual Funds SIG

This SIG provides generalized information concerning the selection and timing of mutual fund investing.  The emphasis is on technical analysis.  A number of software products are used by our members.  The most popular mutual fund software are products based on the FastTrack Database. They are:

Derivative-wise and derivative-curious members are invited to discuss and evaluate the incredible investing flexibility that options, futures, currencies, and other derivatives give to investors. 
Members discuss the fundamentals of derivatives, basic to advanced and conservative to speculative strategies, good (and bad) brokers, and anything else of interest to the investor using derivatives as part of his or her investing strategies.
