The monthly meeting of the Houston Investors Association will take place Saturday, August 8, 2009 at Melcher Hall, on University of Houston Campus 4800 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX. (See Location). The main presentation begins at 11:00 AM, and the SIG meetings begin at 8:30 AM. There will be a brief business meeting at 10:30 AM.

Featured Speaker: Casper Terpinski, the Regional Vice President for Zacks Investment Management

Casper Terpinski, the Regional Vice President for Zacks Investment Management, is a veteran financial advisor with more than 25 years of experience. Casper’s expertise includes virtually all aspects of portfolio management, with notable emphasis on longstanding relationships and individual wealth preservation and money management.  Zacks is the 3rd largest independent equity research firm in the USA supplying investment decision making to individuals and brokerages throughout the world.

Topic: The Zacks Investment Philosophy: Taking Advantage of Earnings Estimates in the Investment Process

Zacks is a world renowned expert on earnings, and using earnings estimate revisions in the investment process.  This presentation will discuss the mathematical model behind the calculation of the Zacks Rank, and why it is a better indicator of the movement of stock prices than broker recommendations.  We will discuss the importance of earnings and earnings estimate revisions in the investment process, and why they are important to you as an investor.  Finally, we will wrap up by discussing some of the common investing mistakes, and how to avoid these pitfalls.
